THE HIBBERT ASSEMBLY

Caius Julius Caesar (c100 - 44 BC)

Julius Caesar was a Roman soldier and political leader who extended Roman power in Europe and brought in a number of reforms . The calendar we use today , although modified by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582, is based on the one which Caesar established. Whilst completing the conquest of Gaul, between 50 and 50 BC, he also invaded Britain.

Caesar was murdered in 44 BC because other leading Romans, anxious to maintain democracy, feared that he would allow himself to be made king.
