Some questions for discussion

1. Do you think that there are careers, or jobs, which are more suited to men than to women, or more suited to women than to men? (You might think about nursing, coaching football, building, dressmaking, the law, and driving a taxi, for example).

2. Godfrey Bloom, a Member of the European Parliament for the Independence Party, said in July 2004 that'No self-respecting small business-man with a brain in the right place would ever employ a lady of child-bearing age'. Is there anything to be said for his view?

3. Does the principle of equal opportunities for women create any problems?

4. Read the section 'Castles in the Air' from Little Women by Louisa Alcott. How far do you think the girls here are conforming to a stereotype?
