More than 1 in 200 people experience epileptic seizures but many people are unaware of the true nature of this medical condition and in some areas it still carries a wholly unjustifiable stigma. Julius Caesar is one of the most famous figures to have had epilepsy. The month of July was named after him and his birthday, probably 12 July, provides an occasion to promote greater knowledge and understanding.
